WHAT I’VE BEEN UP TO

Welcome. I'm Giancarlo — a Director of Photography based in NJ/NY/Philly, though I go where the work calls.

This page is my way of properly introducing myself. I think who you are shapes how you shoot, and how you show up on set matters just as much as the images you walk away with.

I take a holistic approach to this craft. I care about the full process, from the first prep call to the very end. I believe the best sets are collaborative, energetic, and enjoyable and that a good working environment shows up directly in the final image.

Outside of work, I'm someone who gets genuinely excited about things most people wouldn't expect. I have a deep obsession with grass… yes I know haha. I'm currently watching Rooster on HBO & haven’t laughed that hard during a show in a while.

Below is a snapshot of what I've been shooting lately — and a little bit of what's been keeping me inspired. Enjoy.

NEW SHORT FILM: ALZ-PHL

DIR. JOSH RIFKIN

A FOCUS ON INTENTIONAL NATURALISM

This short film was a 6 day production filled with a ton of great moments and scenes. As the DP on the film, the goal of the look for the film was to resemble a real world environment while also making it feel curated.

Some references for the film included “The Holdovers,” “Being There” & “Show me a hero.”

Currently in Post-Production

NEW COMEDY SPOT: CROSSPLAY

DIR. GREG AUERBACH & NATE TWER

COMEDY AT IT’S FINEST

Comedy is harder to shoot than it looks. Timing, coverage, keeping the energy alive between takes..... often the best approach to shooting comedy like this is to keep the camera simple, allow the script and actors to shine without being a distraction. This one with Directors Greg Auerbach & Nate Twer was a blast and a masterclass in staying loose on set (Check the BTS 😉)

BEHIND THE SCENES VIDEO

NEW MUSIC VIDEO: TREATY OAK REVIVAL - BLUE STAR

DIR. ERRICK EASTERDAY

EARLY 2000S INSPIRED

This music video was the 1st ever for the band Treaty Oak Revival. Shot in Dallas, TX over the course of 2 days. The creative for this project was really unique and interesting, especially the inspo for color. The Director, Errick wanted it to feel really raw and gritty, but also over the top saturated to mimic some early 2000s videos. The goal though was to make it feel like a throwback but still maintain the quality and ideas of current trends and styles.

NEW SHORT FILM: THE MAN IN THE PHOTO

DIR. DANNY GEVIRTZ

A SURPRISING TWIST

My 4th collab with director Danny Gevirtz, and working with someone this prepared genuinely makes you a better DP. Color schemes, references, wardrobe & props all locked before day one. On this one, my goal was to build an environment where the actors could breathe and move freely, while quietly guiding them into frames that worked for the light and composition. We wanted it to feel like film — slightly heightened, naturalistic, but very deliberate in its framing and symmetry. A strong director with a clear vision makes everything possible. The result speaks for itself.

NEW BRANDED MINI-DOC: WEST SHORE X PENN STATE

DIR. DANIE HARRIS

AN ODE TO THE GROUNDS KEEPER

A portrait of the man who makes this stadium what it is. If you follow me on IG, you already know I have a deep passion for grass — so when this project landed in my inbox, I was immediately hooked. Getting to shine a light on someone who rarely gets the spotlight they deserve? That's the kind of work that means something.

THE FUN STARTS HERE

Vibrant, fun, and full of energy. A commercial where beauty takes the front seat. **Fun Fact: We had the Fire Dept. come to approve the haze in prep & then the alarms went off mid-shoot for almost 45 min while we waited again for the Fire Dept… We still ended on time :)
